Mal MacKenzie (they/them) is an actor, playwright, and early museum professional hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their work has been produced by the Penn State School of Theater to great acclaim, securing them the Reuben and Gladys Golumbic Award and the Robert Schneider LGBT+ Advocacy in Theater award.
No stranger to the Colerain Forges Mansion, Mal completed a playwriting residency in 2022 and the one-act they wrote over three weeks on the property, entitled "The Bloop", was performed the following winter.
They have worked extensively in the field of museum education at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh and The Palmer Museum of Art in State College where they developed a keen interest in the role of The Museum as a storytelling space and the power of theater as an educational tool.
This August Mal looks forward to exploring this relationship further while creating a work of place-based Theater that immerses visitors to Colerain in a compelling character-driven narrative while doubling as an educational tool on the rich history of the area.
